10 DIY Tips To Speed Up Your Internet Connection

If you’re constantly having to wait while video clips buffer on YouTube or live TV streaming websites, it probably means your internet connection isn’t quite as fast as it should be. Whilst you could pay for professionals to come out and assess the situation, there are many things you can do to help improve it yourself, which is precisely why this article has been written and released today. You see; everyone’s trying to save money at the moment, so unless you’re willing to swap your current provider to one who deals with high speed internet plans, you’ll need to pay attention for the next few minutes as I let you in on a number of tips and tricks you might find effective.

10 DIY Tips To Speed Up Your Internet Connection

1 – Use A Program To Check The Speed

There is lots of free software online, but your computer could have something suitable already built in.

2 – Check Your Hardware Thoroughly

It’s best that you try the connection on a different computer in your home to ensure the problem isn’t with the machine you’re using.

3 – Check Your WiFi Signal

Your router could be making the fastest connections possible, but if you’re connected to it via WiFi, this could be the reason everything seems a little slow.

4 – Turn All Apps Off

Both Apple computers, and those running Windows 8 or above tend to let apps run in the background. Some of these can use a lot of bandwidth, and so you should turn them all off and then reassess the situation.

5 – Find A New DNS

You computer uses DNS to translate web addresses and convert them into a language it understands. Sometimes the server you’re using can crash, and so you should try another to see if any improvements are made.

6 – Optimise Your Computer For A Slow Connection

If it seems you’re just not getting the connection speed you expect, try optimising your computer accordingly for a slow connection. This could include only allowing HTML versions of websites and disabling images.

7 – Prioritise Your “To-Do” List

Presuming you only get a slow connection at certain times of day, make sure you prioritise your work, so that elements requiring high bandwidth are completed before, or after this time.

8 – Get In Touch With Your Internet Service Provider

If you’ve followed all the DIY tips so far and none have made the slightest difference to you connection speed, it will be worth getting in touch with your provider and explaining the situation. You never know; they might be able to help.

9 – Look For A New, Better Internet Service

There is so much around these days that it can be difficult to know where to start. Maybe you should check out some online price comparison websites to find the best deal?

10 – Give Up

You seem to be experiencing issues no matter what you do, so I’d advise you refrain from using your computer at home and instead, purchase a laptop and do your work in coffee shops, bars and anywhere with a free WiFi connection.

That last one was just to lighten the mood, and things shouldn’t get to that stage if you just employ some basic common sense. Remember, lots of different things can affect signal strength, so don’t feel too disheartened if it takes a couple of weeks to locate the main issue.

Good luck!
