The LandCruiser 200 Altitude – with premium paint (metallic or pearlescent) standard – ups the ante with the addition of 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and a range of luxury interior appointments.
It is priced at just $1,700 more than the host vehicle – the GXL grade with premium paint.
Altitude’s extra equipment is usually reserved for customers of the higher-grade LandCruiser 200 VX and Sahara models.
Owners of the eight-seat special-edition wagon will be cosseted in a black leather-accented interior with premium steering wheel and gearshift knob.
They will have the comfort and convenience of driver and front-passenger seats with power-operated slide, recline, height and cushion tilt. The driver’s seat also has power lumbar adjustment.
To keep drinks and snacks fresh, the LandCruiser 200 Altitude is fitted with a cooler box within the centre console.
The $92,165* LandCruiser 200 Altitude is powered exclusively by Toyota’s twin-turbo V8 common-rail diesel engine, mated to an electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmission.
The 195kW, 650Nm V8 achieves fuel economy of just 10.3 litres/100km** for a theoretical range of more than 1,300km from its 93-litre main and 45-litre sub tanks.
The Altitude incorporates recent updates to LandCruiser GXL such as trailer sway control – designed to assist if a towed vehicle becomes unsettled by crosswinds, bumpy roads or sharp turns of the steering wheel. Braked towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes***.
All LandCruiser 200 series models attract a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
The Altitude has eight airbags as well as vehicle stability and active traction control.
A 6.1-inch LCD screen displays images from the reversing camera and satellite navigation system#.
Like all LandCruisers, the special-edition model is fitted with a Multi-Terrain ABS^ that adapts to driving conditions (including sand, mud and gravel) by detecting engine output, acceleration and wheel speed.
It also features Toyota’s off-road cruise-control system, CRAWL^, which has five low-speed settings and disengages at speeds over 25km/h.
CRAWL automatically controls the engine output and brake hydraulic pressure to maintain a low uniform vehicle speed with minimal wheel spin or lock-up, allowing the driver to concentrate fully on steering.
The Altitude comes in five exterior colours – Crystal Pearl and Eclipse Black (both previously reserved for VX and Sahara), Silver Pearl, Graphite and Shimmer.
It is covered by Toyota Service Advantage with services capped at $210^^ for each of up to six standard scheduled services.
Last year, LandCruiser 200 series wagon jumped 31 per cent to 8,089 registrations. This year, sales have risen further – up more than 13.1 per cent to 3,776 units, supported by improvements to safety, comfort and convenience.
