We all know that iPhones are probably the most advanced smartphone solution on the market today, but as they can cost upwards of £600 for the latest model, they’re often outside of the price range average people are willing to consider. This means they have no choice but to check out something a little cheaper. Unfortunately, many of the Samsung and HTC models simply don’t offer the same level of performance, and this has made many people look towards their old favourite from back in the day; Nokia. For a good five years, this company failed to release anything of interest, but the new Lumia range has been making waves for them once again.

In particular, it’s the Lumia 520 people are so excited about, and although this model makes up the budget end of their new range, it’s actually quite an amazing smartphone for the money. RRP prices are around £120, but many high street stores have been running deals on this model, which has led to price reductions of almost 50%. That’s £69 for a phone that could compete with anything made by Apple. Impressive eh?

With this in mind, we thought it might be worth discussing some of the main features that make this phone so appealing…

Nokia Mix Radio

In an attempt to compete with Apple and their iTunes service, Nokia has included an application that links phone users up with their no advert radio station. This is better than it sounds though, as users are able to choose from a list of many pre-organised playlists, or simply create their own from all the songs available. The only restriction relates to skipping songs, which can only be done five times each hour. After that, the playlist must be left to run.

Here Drive

This is the Nokia windows phone version of a sat nav, and it actually performs better than Google Maps in most situations. The action is smooth, the routes are reliable, and there’s a pretty nice female voice to guide you when driving. The app itself is very smart, and so it’s a little surprising it comes with a Nokia phone at all. Most users agree; they would happily pay upwards of £5 for a similar product.

Nokia Photo Editing Software

There are currently around 5 different free Nokia photo editing apps available for download to the Lumia 520, all of which are excellent. However, there’s still room for more, and so any developers out there could make a significant amount of money from releasing their own. For instance, there is a lack of panoramic photography apps, so if you have the abilities, creating these for the marketplace could be a wise move. Just make sure you visit a website like www.londonip.com to make sure you get it properly protected before release, as many amateur developers lose out to big firms due to this oversight.

Hopefully, you can all now see the Nokia Lumia 520 is a true beast amongst budget smartphones. The very idea of being able to purchase something similar to the iPhone for less than £70 should make you jump for joy.

Remember, it’s not always about the high price tags. Every so often, even the cheaper manufacturers release something amazing.
Enjoy!
