Brandenburg Heart Center Bernau–Oct 22, 2015– Berlin, Germany (Techreleased) – Immanuel Hospital Bernau and Brandenburg Heart Center – Brandenburg Medical School is one of Germany’s leading hospitals on account of its outstanding interdisciplinary cooperation in cardiology, cardiac surgery, anesthesiology, and intensive care. Every year it performs 1,500 open heart surgeries and provides treatment to 6,400 patients in its cardiac catheter laboratories.

The Brandenburg Heart Center Bernau relies on the latest technical developments when it comes to equipping its cardiac catheter laboratories in line with its highly innovative approach. EIZO video management solutions play a key role here. The Large Monitor Manager (LMM) is at the core of the EIZO video management solution. This makes it possible to easily and flexibly distribute image data from a variety of imaging systems onto a large screen or several monitors, where it can be displayed according to the requirements. The LMM also allows direct access to the image sources and makes it possible to examine and manage individual applications immediately using the mouse or keyboard.

Bernau’s most recently furnished HKL4 cardiac catheter laboratory, a hybrid operating room, is equipped with EIZO video management solutions both in the examination room and the control room. From the control room, EIZO LMM0802 is used to transfer image data from up to eight examination-relevant imaging systems to an EIZO RadiForce LS580W monitor (8 MP, 58″ operating room monitor). The EIZO RadiForce LS580W monitor is attached to an operating room stoplight in the examination room. Operators in the control room use the LMM to display data from a range of image sources on an EIZO RadiForce RX850 monitor (8 MP, 30″ diagnosis monitor). As a result, it has been possible to considerably reduce the total number of monitors, keyboards, and mice in the control room, which in turn had a positive impact on background noise and the use of the air-conditioning system, among other things. The LMMs and required PCs are located in a separate utility room.

The senior cardiologists and the entire IT/medical technology team have full confidence in the EIZO video management solutions: “It’s a sophisticated technical solution that significantly improves the workflow during day-to-day operations. It’s a major benefit for us to have an overview of all of the systems on one monitor and quickly be able to access the different systems. It was also possible to considerably reduce background noise in the control room. This contributed to a far better level of understanding between the examination room and the control room,” says Prof. Dr. Christian Butter, Head of the Department of Cardiology.

“You get the hang of the system very quickly, as it’s intuitive to operate. For me, the best thing about the solution is how it allows you to create different layouts depending on the type of examination and then adjust the examination procedure accordingly,” adds Dr. Martin Seifert, Senior Physician, Department of Cardiology and Specialist for Intensive Care Medicine and Cardiology.

“I couldn’t agree more with what the doctors have just said. From an IT perspective, it’s also worth noting that it has been possible to seamlessly integrate the EIZO video management solutions into our existing IT environment. The system is also very reliable. We haven’t had any failures yet. What’s more, a Full HD signal from the EIZO video management system enables integration into the existing audio/video conference systems, which is a major advantage for national and international conference calls,” says engineer Detlef Jarke.

As a result of the positive experience, the hospital has now decided to equip other cardiac catheter laboratories with the EIZO solutions. It will once again rely on the existing successful cooperation with GE Healthcare and Global Med Con for implementation.
