Posted On January 16, 2013Jan 16, 2013– Detroit, USA (Techreleased) – An all-new Acura MDX Prototype and further advanced Acura NSX Concept made their world debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan (Press days: January 14-15 / Public days: January 19-27).
Adopting a front grille and Jewel Eye™ LED headlights that represent the next-generation design of the Acura brand, the Acura MDX Prototype expresses a smooth and elegant form that provides a sense of flowing air. Although the vehicle height was successfully lowered by 1.5 inches, a spacious interior equivalent to the current model was secured through highly-efficient packaging.
While achieving both high torque and excellent fuel economy with an all-new 3.5L direct-injected SOHC i-VTEC® V6 engine, acceleration performance and driving comfort appropriate for a luxury SUV were also realized through fully refurbished front and rear suspensions and a lightweight chassis. Acura plans to produce the all-new 2014 MDX at its Alabama plant and introduce it to the U.S. market by mid-2013.
The NSX Concept is a super sports model offering new value to the customer. Together with the next-generation direct-injected VTEC V6 engine mounted on a lightweight vehicle body in a mid-ship layout, the NSX Concept features a highly-efficient and high-output SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD® (Super Handling – All Wheel Drive™) hybrid system, which realizes both outstanding driving performance and fuel economy. The exterior design was further advanced for the new NSX Concept, by adopting dynamic styling that is clean, modern, low and wide which indicates the vehicle’s high performance potential. The interior design, developed under the concept of a “Human Support Cockpit,” offers excellent visibility, an exotic driving position and a cockpit equipped with an intuitive interface which enable the driver to focus on driving.
The SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD® is a hybrid system which features an electric all-wheel drive system that combines the engine with a newly-developed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with a built-in high efficiency motor, and two electric motors that drive both front wheels independently. Honda’s original torque control system enables independent control of torque distribution to the front wheels to generate the torque necessary to realize an innovative “on-the-rails” feeling during cornering without relying on engine output. This system not only realizes excellent environmental performance and fuel economy, but enables the driver to enjoy dynamic acceleration possible only with a super sports model and to experience the joy of driving based on the idea of “the synergy between man and machine.”
In addition to debuting these two models, Acura announced its sales plan in the U.S. for the all-new 2014 Acura RLX model with Precision All-Wheel Steer™, which was first exhibited at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November of last year. Sales will start on March 15 of this year and the starting price will be $48,450 (excluding tax).
