“We are proud to equip the sailors that defend our country’s coastline with the best in naval gun technology,” said Mark Signorelli, vice president and general manager of Weapon Systems for BAE Systems. “The versatility of the Mk 110 provides our armed services with the ability to take on today’s expanding range of surface, airborne, and shore-based threats.”
The 57mm Mk 110 is currently in service with the U.S. Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter, and the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship. The gun system is capable of firing up to 220 rounds per minute at a distance of up to 10.5 miles. It is fully automatic and able to immediately switch between optimized ammunition types.
The two Mk 110 gun systems are scheduled for delivery by December 2014 and include additional engineering support options over the next three years. Work will be performed in Louisville, Kentucky; Minneapolis, Minnesota and Karlskoga, Sweden.
To date, BAE Systems has produced 19 Mk 110 guns for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.
