Mar 07, 2013– Istanbul, Turkey  (Techreleased) – Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation presents its comprehensive portfolio of proven, eco-friendly and technologically advanced mobility solutions at the Eurasia Rail Rolling Stock, Infrastructure & Logistics exhibition. The BOMBARDIER ZEFIRO very high speed train, the BOMBARDIER FLEXITY 2 tram and the BOMBARDIER MOVIA driverless metro are among the main attractions at the fair. The company is also highlighting its European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) expertise and state-of-the-art BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) solution, which are ideally suited to Turkey’s rapidly expanding rail transportation network.

“Turkey’s impressive railway expansion programme demonstrates its ambition to fully leverage its strategic position as the bridge linking Europe with Asia,” said Pier Prinamello, Regional Sales Executive Turkey, Bombardier Transportation. “The country’s commitment to invest $45 billion US over the next 10 years holds great potential for boosting the mobility of people and freight across the region and beyond. Bombardier is committed to expanding its existing presence in this exciting market.” The Global Sourcing Office in Istanbul actively supports the integration of local suppliers in Bombardier’s supply chain, leading to more than $10 million US in exports for Turkish suppliers over the last 5 years. We look forward to presenting our wide range of proven solutions, from trams and metros to very high speed trains and rail control solutions that reduce the constraints of current networks.”

Bombardier’s V300ZEFIRO train is the new flagship of European high speed travel, capable of operating at top speeds of up to 360 km/h. Its unusually high acceleration ensures excellent travel times even on winding routes. It is fully interoperable for use across the European network, starting in Italy in 2014. Delivered in consortium with Ansaldo Breda for Trenitalia, the train is a member of the ZEFIRO family of high speed trains that offer the highest capacity in the market and the lowest energy consumption per seat of any very high speed train. The flexible vehicles can be customised to any market needs and are the culmination of Bombardier’s global experience in the high speed sector, spanning more than two decades.

Trams and light rail vehicles are the most energy efficient mode of transportation, consuming up to five times less energy per passenger than cars travelling with an average of between one and two people. They are capable of transporting up to 250 passengers at once and operate for a period of 30 years or longer. The latest development in the proven FLEXITY family of modern trams and light rail vehicles (LRVs) is the FLEXITY 2 tram, which began operating in Blackpool, UK, in April 2012 and is being delivered to Australia’s Gold Coast and Switzerland’s Capital of Culture, Basel. The tram can be equipped with energy saving technologies from the BOMBARDIER ECO4 portfolio, including the BOMBARDIER MITRAC Energy Saver, which allows energy to be re-used and provides energy savings of up to 30 per cent.

In Turkey, 30 new FLEXITY Swift light rail vehicles have helped relieve congestion in the city of Bursa, improve the quality of transport services and boost capacity on the expanding network since 2011. To date, 3,500 trams and light rail vehicles from Bombardier have been ordered in about 100 cities in more than 20 countries around the globe.

As the world’s leading metro supplier, Bombardier is shaping the future of mass transit travel. Its high-tech, high capacity MOVIA metros deliver rapid, reliable and cost-effective transport across major cities including London, Berlin, Shanghai, Singapore and New Delhi. The MOVIA metro concept is completely modular, enabling vehicles to be configured to meet customers’ infrastructure constraints as well as future needs. Bombardier supplied Turkey’s first metro system, in Ankara in 1995, and has since developed light rail transit (LRT) and tram systems for cities across Turkey: Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Eskisehir and Bursa.

Not only has Bombardier successfully delivered the vehicles for these systems, it also supplies signalling technology that allows increased capacity and safety on urban and mainline rail networks. The proven CITYFLO 650 CBTC solution uses advanced technology to facilitate operation of high density mass transit systems. Providing all levels for automation including Unmanned Train Operation (UTO), the solution is in operation or delivery on almost 30 lines around the world. Applications range from complex overlays on existing high-capacity lines which can be delivered without interruption to service, to systems for completely new lines, which can be operational in under two years, to more limited operations such as for automated people mover systems.

In Madrid, Spain, the operator has noted a 30 per cent increase in passenger carrying capacity since start of operations with the CITYFLO system. The latest applications are being delivered on the major four-line sub-surface railway of the London Underground and the new Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) in Malaysia, as well as in Brazil, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the USA. Bombardier has implemented and is delivering mass transit rail control projects in Turkey, including its CITYFLO 250 technology for Istanbul and Izmir light rail transport systems and the Sultan Ciftligi tram in Istanbul and the CITYFLO 350 solution for the Istanbul Ikitelli and Adana metros.

The BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 550 signalling solution is the first European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) technology specifically designed for regional and rural routes. A modularised wayside system, it provides capacity, adaptability and cost-effectiveness to meet any future growth in system size or levels of automation. The new system minimises trackside equipment by combining the ERTMS standard for onboard automatic train protection with a radio-based wayside system. It addresses component cost and availability by employing readily available, commercial off-the-shelf products.

Compared to fixed block systems, the moving and flexible block system saves energy by providing more efficient traffic adaptability. Sharing data with other systems is also a simple task and can contribute to better traffic management. The world’s first system started operating on Sweden’s Västerdal line in 2012. Bombardier is also delivering INTERFLO 550 technology for two lines on Kazakhstan’s mainline network.
