Posted On December 28, 2012Dec 28, 2012– Shenzhen, China (Techreleased) – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced it has completed deployment of an intelligent optical distribution network (iODN) for Rostelecom in Perm Krai, Russia. This is the first iODN in Russia, providing superior service experiences to broadband subscribers.
Rostelecom is the largest fixed network operator in Russia. To maintain its competitive advantage and enrich service offerings, Rostelecom has planned to roll out high-speed broadband over fiber to the home (FTTH), but with concerns over the deployment efficiency and O&M of the fiber network infrastructure. Huawei’s iODN solution is set to effectively combat these challenges.
Using this solution, fiber utilization is improved through electronic and transparent resource management, protecting investment in infrastructure and reducing capacity expansion costs. It also supports real-time monitoring of network construction progress and resilient adjustment of fiber links, enabling fast service provisioning. Furthermore, a multi-level link-quality-assurance mechanism is introduced to enhance network reliability and simplify O&M. This mechanism allows for real-time monitoring of link quality and fast fault diagnosis.
“The iODU network deployed by Huawei is great. It simplifies the O&M of fiber networks, helping us deliver high-quality services and lower O&M costs.” said Korolev K.G., chief technology officer (CTO) of Rostelecom’s Perm branch.
Huawei is committed to building high-quality infrastructure fiber networks. In October 2010, Huawei took the lead in launching an iODN solution, winning the InfoVision award from the Broadband World Forum (BBWF). Huawei’s proposal for iODN standards have been released by ITU-T and adopted by the Broadband Forum. Huawei has deployed more than 60 iODNs worldwide and will continue to lead global iODN deployments.
