Posted On February 27, 2023Mitsubishi Electric has invested $25 million in Astroscale’s Series G funding round and will work with the satellite servicing and sustainability leader to develop sustainably designed satellite buses for Japanese national security constellations.
Sustainable satellite buses with Astroscale docking plates
The joint venture will involve the integration of an Astroscale docking plate, which serves as a standardized interface for satellite buses. It will allow spacecraft to dock with satellites, move them, or remove them when they are unable to deorbit themselves after reaching their end-of-life stage. This approach promotes sustainability, reduces costs and maximizes safety for future on-orbit servicing.
Ensuring safety and sustainability in the orbital environment
Astroscale CEO, Nobu Okada, stated that the world is increasingly reliant on satellites and that any disruption or inaccessibility to the orbital environment would have significant consequences. He further added that space is a shared domain, and a partnership with Mitsubishi Electric ensures safety, security, and sustainability in the orbital environment.
