Posted On September 5, 2013New Lexus Is Models Achieve Maximum Rating In Euro Crash Test – Sep 05, 2013– Melbourne, Australia (Techreleased) – The new Lexus IS models have achieved a five-star rating under recent Euro NCAP crash testing.
The new IS models achieved an overall score well above the minimum required to achieve five stars, ranking the new Lexus among the very safest vehicles in the European premium D segment.
The new Lexus IS models scored 91 per cent for Adult Occupant, 85 per cent for Child Occupant, 80 per cent for Pedestrian Protection and 66 per cent for Safety Assist.

Commenting on the Adult Occupant category, Euro NCAP highlighted the maximum points scored by the new IS models in the side barrier impact test, the good protection offered by the driver and front passenger knee airbags, and the high level of protection against whiplash injuries.
In the Child Occupant tests, the new IS models scored maximum points for the protection they provided to both 18-month and three-year-old infants.
In the Pedestrian Protection category, the new IS models scored the best among all large family cars ever tested by Euro NCAP, thanks mainly to its newly developed pop-up hood and bumper.
Sensors in the bumper detect when a pedestrian has been struck and actuators lift the bonnet to provide greater clearance to the hard structures underneath. This system can detect pedestrians of different statures over a range of speeds.
Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said that the results reaffirm Lexus’ commitment to delivering vehicles that are dynamically engaging and safe.
“Lexus is in the midst of a product-lead revolution and the new IS models are at the forefront of this change.
“Not only is it great to look at, it’s also enjoyable to drive and safe,” Mr Hanley said.
With a highly rigid, impact-absorbing body shell and a comprehensive range of active and passive impact features, the new IS models have been designed to provide the best possible safety performance in all driving scenarios.
Incorporating Lexus’ unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, the new IS models build on the already superior safety performance of the outgoing model with the addition of several advanced new active safety features on some models, such as a sophisticated Pre-Collision safety System (PCS), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system, Lane Departure Warning (LDA) and Tyre Pressure Warning System (TPWS).
The IS also benefits from eight SRS airbags as standard including both driver and front passenger SRS knee airbags, with 10 available on Sports Luxury and selected IS 300h* models.
