Posted On September 7, 2015Olympus Unveils automated cell counter for research applications – Cell Counter Model R1 –Sept 07, 2015– Tokyo, Japan (Techreleased) – Olympus Corporation today announced the launch by its Scientific Solutions Business of the Cell Counter model R1, an automated cell counter for research applications that utilize cultured cells, including regenerative medicine and drug development research. Cell Counter model R1 will be launched progressively throughout the world from September 14, 2015.
The Cell Counter model R1 is a new product from Olympus’s Scientific Solutions Business for use in cell culturing in the research field. By placing a droplet of cell sample on a special slide and inserting the slide into the machine, the Cell Counter model R1 can obtain not only a cell count but also other measurements such as cell size and the proportion of live and dead cells.
Various types of cell, including iPS and other stem cells, are grown in continuous cultures and harvested for use in a variety of research applications in regenerative medicine and drug development. Cells are grown in a culture vessel by the ongoing addition of a culture medium that provides nutrients. As cell are grown, cell counts are performed to determine whether it reaches sufficient concentration, and the culturing process is repeated by creating a subculture containing a viable concentration of cells with keeping same cell concentration. Use of the Cell Counter Model R1 enables these cell culturing steps to be performed efficiently and enhances the accuracy of experiments using the cultured cells.
Product Name: Cell Counter Model R1
Launch Date: September 14, 2015
The unique software algorithm and liquid lens autofocusing achieve accurate counts by recognizing and counting overlapping cells. The system can also classify cells by size and shape and determine the proportion of live and dead cells. The ability to store up to 300 sets of count settings provides simple operation whereby the user simply selects the appropriate settings for the type of cells being counted.
The cell count settings, recorded images, and various measurements, including cell count, proportion of live and dead cells, and cell size, can be viewed on the large 7-inch touch screen. The results can also be saved as a report file in PDF format and copied to other devices via a USB port.
The small and lightweight design (approximately 2.1kg) of the cell counter, which includes a carry handle, means it is easy to carry around and can be used anywhere. Furthermore, the power adapter and cable can be put away in a storage space on the rear of the instrument. Also, the touch panel is located on the lower part of the cell counter for ease of use and stability.
