Posted On September 5, 2013Philips previews HomeCooker neXt – a prototype of the future of home cooking – Sep 05, 2013– Berlin, Germany (Techreleased) – As part of Philips’ commitment to deliver meaningful innovation in personal health and well-being, at this year’s IFA, Philips is previewing what the future of home-cooking could look like.
Last year, together with Jamie Oliver, Philips announced a new to the world innovation called HomeCooker. With convenience and deep flavor at the heart of its design, it has helped families to cook tastier meals with less effort. With AutoStir technology – a constant, gentle stirring action – the Philips Jamie Oliver HomeCooker brings out deep, delicious flavors and the ability to roast, steam or sauté a wealth of different dishes.
Part of the HomeCooker original product design team, world renowned chef Jamie Oliver commented: “We all know it can be a struggle to get fresh, homemade food on the table every day, especially for busy parents who have to juggle so much. It’s often a real tradeoff between spending time with the family and preparing fresh food.”
Recognizing this dilemma, Philips is continuously exploring ways to further enhance and simplify the home-cooking experience, helping families to create delicious, home-cooked meals, every day.
Concept provides cooking inspiration and guidance
Working with consumers, Philips has developed concepts and prototypes of an app-controlled HomeCooker within a project called “neXt”. The prototype features a Philips HomeCooker with built-in Wi-Fi and a new dedicated app for your smart device. The app provides inspiration and guidance throughout the entire cooking process, showing pictures of all the ingredients with step-by-step instructions on how to cook and combine them for a homemade meal.
“Many consumers are already using their smart devices to find new recipes online, so we’re exploring ways to create a smart digital kitchen appliance,” says Katrin Hansson, Consumer Marketing Director Philips Kitchen Appliances. “We’ve been working with consumers to discover insights and generate ideas, and look forward to using these co-created ideas within our partnership with Jamie Oliver, to define what the next generation of HomeCooker and other kitchen appliances could bring to help people live healthier lives.”
Provides much needed ‘Away Time’ form the kitchen
Further enhancing the prototype’s ability to allow unattended cooking, the “neXt” app automatically calculates and controls the perfect time and temperature settings to cook food to perfection, whilst giving parents much needed ‘Away Time’ from the kitchen.
Freeing up moments of time for other things, such as spending time with the family, there’s no risk of burning or miscalculating measurements. With a beep and an on-screen notification to confirm when attention is needed, the app will automatically reduce the heat once the cooking time has ended, and keep food warm until you are ready to serve.
Building on its 122 year heritage of delivering meaningful innovations that have improved quality of life for millions, Philips is responding to the changing needs of consumers today. As their lives become ever more digitally-driven and connected, Philips’ new generation of digital innovations – including the Philips HomeCooker neXt concept – are designed to meet consumers’ needs and expectations for greater connectivity, personalization, control and convenience. At this year’s IFA we are showcasing a new generation of digital concepts and products, spanning Male Grooming, Kitchen Appliances, Coffee, Mother and Child Care, and Air purification.
The HomeCooker neXt is in concept phase so no launch information is available at this time.
