SAPPHIRE Announces Two New Embedded Solutions – Mar 14, 2014– Taipei, Taiwan (Techreleased) – SAPPHIRE Technology has just introduced two new products at the recent Embedded World Show in Nuremberg from its Embedded Business Unit specialising in solutions for this sector of the market.
The first introduction is a small format PC based on the latest SOC (system on chip) technology from AMD. The second is a low profile graphics card supporting four simultaneous outputs based on the latest AMD Embedded Radeon™ graphics architecture.
“We are already seeing some exciting introductions from our Embedded BU,” said Adrian Thompson, VP of Marketing for SAPPHIRE. “These new products are typical of the innovation and expertise that SAPPHIRE can bring to this market.”
“The new AMD Embedded G-Series SOC and Radeon E8860 GPU-based solutions from SAPPHIRE are just the beginning of a great technology partnership between AMD and SAPPHIRE for the embedded market,” said Kamal Khouri, director of product marketing, AMD Embedded Solutions. “These are just the tip of the iceberg, and we look forward to working with SAPPHIRE to deliver industry-leading solutions for embedded applications.”
New SAPPHIRE 4×4 PC
The SAPPHIRE BP-FT3GS features the latest embedded SOC architecture from AMD in a very small 100 x 100mm (or 4 x 4 inch) format. The latest AMD G-Series FT3 SOC combines a low power CPU, control circuitry and discrete level graphics in a single device. This low-power solution delivers much higher core and graphics performance than previous generations, with full support for DirectX 11.1, OpenGL 4.2 and OpenCL 1.2. Two HDMI outputs are provided on the board, which can be used simultaneously.
Additional SAPPHIRE BP-FT3GS features include two SO-DIMM memory slots, allowing up to 16GB of (non-ECC) DDR3 memory to be installed. Expansion capability includes one mini-PCI-Express connector, suitable for the addition of a wireless module, and one mSATA port for the connection of an SSD. This solution offers extensive connectivity with two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports and a standard RJ-45 Gigabit LAN port, as well as audio I/O. The board is powered from a standard 19V DC input jack.
Supported with a two year warranty, and with a projected product life cycle of five years, the SAPPHIRE BP-FT3GS is an ideal small format PC solution for a wide range of embedded applications such as set-top box, media server, IP-TV, Casino Gaming, information systems, POS systems and industrial control systems or as a player for Digital Signage.
The same board is available installed in a metal case and delivered as a barebone PC, known as the SAPPHIRE SP-QFFT3GS, which has a standard VESA bracket and can easily be mounted to a wall or display. This version can also be delivered as a full system equipped with WIFI, 4GB SO-DIMM and 60GB mSATA SSD.
New 4-port low profile graphics card
SAPPHIRE has over a decade of experience in graphics, and is now delivering a number of graphics solutions for embedded applications. Shown for the first time together with AMD in Nuremberg was the new Radeon E8860 Graphics Card.
The SAPPHIRE Radeon E8860 is a low-profile single slot graphics card with four mini-DisplayPort outputs supporting four simultaneous displays. It is based on the latest graphics module from AMD and featuring the successful GCN (graphics core next) architecture. This provides support for DirectX11.1 and Shader Model 5.0. The on-board 4th Generation Unified Video Decoder(UVD) supports dual stream HD content decoding, including H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards, and the built-in VCE engine supports H.264 encoding, making the card ideal for a wide range of image processing and video applications.
The architecture of the SAPPHIRE Radeon E8860 has 640 stream processors and the core is clocked at 825MHz. It is equipped with 2GB of the latest 128-bit GDDR5 memory, clocked at 1125MHz. Together these specifications make the card a powerful solution for general purpose graphics applications.
The SAPPHIRE Radeon E8860 also supports APP Acceleration. APP Acceleration is the name given to the enhanced performance of a wide range of applications using the stream processing capabilities and specific hardware features of the GCN graphics architecture. Typical applications include video encoding and decoding, compression and multiplexing for media distribution, gaming or video conferencing. APP acceleration can also enhance everyday tasks such as Internet browsing, Office applications and file compression with supported software suites.
